There is nothing more pleasing to the parents’ eyes than to see their children being raised upon the obedience of Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala. However, raising them in this way demands great effort.
One of the ways to accomplish this great journey of memorization of the Qur’an is to dedicate all efforts and time for it and to leave academic studies for the time after the memorization is completed. If the Hifdh program lasts for 2 or 3 years then it is not seriously impacting the progress of the academic studies. However, I have seen many students whose memorization period extends over several years and creates a problem for children to return to school.
Personally, I don’t think that process of memorization has to be that long if right methods of learning are implemented. In the same manner, academic studies don’t have to be overwhelming. Public and private schools suffer from textbook and worksheets fatigue overwhelming students with work that is not necessary. Academic material can be covered in easier and more effective way.
As a result of years of experience in working with Hifdh students, this program has been designed to meet their needs.
Length of the program
The course starts October 8th, 2019 and ends June 12th, 2020.
This is the average length of the school year.
Schedule-frequency of classes
Learners can watch lessons at a time that works for them and progress at their own pace.
Meaning, learners can move through lessons at the speed that’s comfortable to them. Course is designed for learners to spend 50 minutes a day for this course (Monday thru Friday). I recommend for successful math learning to be done everyday at least 30 minutes because constant small actions make big impact, so same with math. “Practice every day, if only for a short period of time”. Again learners are free to make their own schedule.
Live group chat is once a week and participants can ask questions or they can send their questions by email prior the live chat. The sessions are scheduled separately for boys and girls.
Syllabus – summary of topics to be covered in the course
Course content covers essential 5-6 grade math concepts in easy to follow order of topics. Content can be covered in average time of 10 months. Course covers number theory, fractions, decimals, percents, ratio and rates, integers, expressions, equations and inequalities.
How will I work with students?
Besides video presentations on math concepts learners will have opportunity to see many math exercises
and word problems done in front of them.
Math is one of those subjects that causes anxiety in a lot of students so I try to make student interaction pretty easy like answering with thumbs up/thumbs down, answering in groups, having students ask each other for help, etc. My goal is to make my online classroom a safe and comfortable space for students. Students can choose whether/how they engage in my class. Some students choose not to join by video or audio but just to communicate with me on the chat line and I am perfectly fine with that. Frequently, students will start a class that way and ease into the video join when they feel comfortable. The minimum communication I require is just an occasional chat message from a student to let me know they are there and can follow along.
Whatever is needed to support a student is perfectly fine with me. It is highly recommended that you contact me a day or two before the class to let me know if your learner will have an assistant with them since additional unregistered learners are not normally allowed in class.
Curriculum and pdf textbooks will be provided from the instructor. A printer is required to print notes/assignments. Notebook will be needed.
Prerequisite Learners should know addition, subtraction, multiplication table, and division.
